2022 Marks Our 173nd Year Praising God
and Serving the Lucasville Area Community

EUMC is the oldest church and organization in the Lucasville area.
The second oldest is the Lucasville Masonic Lodge #465,
which is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2022.

In 1848, the heirs of John Lucas, founder of Lucasville, decided to settle his estate and sold his lots of land in Lucasville. Sarah Ainsworth Belknap
(see picture below), the wife of Dr. Daniel Belknap, purchased 48 lots for $10 each; she donated one of these lots so the church could be built.

Dr. Daniel and Sarah Ainsworth Belknap's son, Daniel A. Belknap, married Mary E. To cover the cost of building the church, Daniel A.'s wife, Mary E. Belknap
, started a subscription paper, which raised enough money to fund the building of the first church. The bricks to build the church were 'fired' in the surrounding community.

In the spring of 1849, the Methodist Episcopal Church of Lucasville was organized under the leadership of Rev. Sheldon Parker (see obituary below) and Rev. L.A. Atkinson. The Rev. John Stewart was presiding Elder. We became a part of the Piketon Circuit, First District (see picture below of church cornerstone).

Dr. Daniel and Sarah Ainsworth Belknap's daughter, Mary Belknap (see picture below), married Norman Moulton. In 1850, the first Sunday School was organized by Mary Belknap Moulton. She also secured funds for the first library and later became the first Superintendent.

In the early 1920's, a plan was developed to build a new church with more room for social activities and the current church building was dedicated on July 1, 1928 (see picture below of cornerstone). The church was for many years a part of a circuit, but later became a separate Charge in 1950.

On April 23, 1968, Methodists united when The Evangelical United Brethren Church and The Methodist Church joined together to form The United Methodist Church
(http://www.umc.org/who-we-are/history).  The Lucasville Emmanuel United Methodist Church is a member of The West Ohio Conference and Shawnee Valley District.

Descendants of Dr. Daniel and Sarah Ainsworth Belknap and their daughter, Mary Belknap Moulton, continue to worship at EUMC, volunteer in the community, and dedicate their lives to spreading the Word of God.
